Media24 invites qualified candidates to apply for the Woolworths TASTE Food Assistant Internship in Cape Town. The closing date for applications is 6 November 2026.
If you have finished a culinary course and love making food look amazing on camera, this 12‑month paid internship could be the step that launches your career in food styling and content creation. You will work side‑by‑side with seasoned food stylists, photographers and art directors inside a busy studio, learning how food is prepared, plated and photographed for ads, magazines and social media.
What You’ll Do Every Day
- Help Prepare and Plate Food – Follow the stylist’s directions to chop, cook, arrange and present dishes so they look perfect for the shot.
- Keep the Kitchen Tidy – Store knives, pans, bowls and other tools in the right place so the team can work quickly.
- Move Props and Supplies – Pick up, deliver and set up ingredients, plates, cloths and other props that are needed for each shoot.
- Clean Up as You Go – Wipe surfaces, wash utensils and follow food‑safety rules to keep everything safe and sanitary.
- Label and Store Food – Write clear labels and put leftovers in the proper fridge or pantry spot, so nothing goes to waste.
- Track Materials – Check stock levels of ingredients and props, and let the team know when something needs to be reordered.
- Write Simple Recipes – Jot down the steps used in each shoot, so the same dish can be recreated later.
- Do Basic Costing – Help tally the price of each ingredient when a recipe needs a budget.
- Find Quality Ingredients – Choose fresh produce and good‑quality items that match the creative brief.
- Set Up the Set – Place props, arrange backgrounds and help create the visual mood the photographer wants.
- Support the Whole Crew – Listen carefully to instructions, respond fast when priorities change, and pitch in wherever help is needed.
Who We’re Looking For
- Completed a culinary training program (college, school or apprenticeship).
- A real love for food and a curiosity about how it looks on camera.
- Interest in food photography, advertising, magazines or online content.
- Ability to follow clear directions and adapt when plans shift during a shoot.
- Strong organisational skills – you can keep a workspace neat even when it’s hectic.
- A “can‑do” attitude and a willingness to learn from experienced stylists.
- Good teamwork – you’ll be working with photographers, art directors and other creatives.
- Punctual, reliable and ready for early mornings or occasional weekend shoots.
- Basic knowledge of food‑safety and hygiene practices.
- Sharp eye for detail when plating, arranging colours and textures.
- Ability to manage time well and juggle several tasks according to the shoot schedule.
Application package:
- An up‑to‑date CV.
- A short cover letter explaining why you want to work in food styling and what you hope to learn.
- Samples of any food‑related work you have (photos, styling projects, recipe cards – personal projects count!).
- Academic transcripts or university results, if you have them.
Why This Internship Stands Out
- Paid Position: Earn a stipend while you train.
- Mentorship: Direct guidance from senior food stylists and production experts.
- Portfolio Building: Real‑world projects that you can add to your portfolio.
- Diverse Experience: Work on advertising, editorial and commercial food shoots.
- Career Guidance: Receive advice on next steps after the 12‑month program.
The internship gives you a full picture of how food content is created—from buying ingredients to the final photo that appears in a magazine or on a website. By the end of the year, you’ll have solid skills, a professional network and a showcase of work ready for future employers.
