Eskom invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for its Graduate in Training – Legal vacancies. The closing date for applications is 9 October 2026.

What the role is about

Eskom is looking for five fresh graduates to join the Legal Department at Megawatt Park, Sunninghill (Gauteng). This is a real‑world legal internship that lets you see how a large electricity company works day‑to‑day. You will be paid at the market rate (grade L7) and the posts are part of Eskom’s employment‑equity plan, meaning the company aims to give opportunities to a wide range of South Africans.

The six‑month programme mixes classroom‑style training with on‑the‑job tasks. By the end you should be comfortable using legal knowledge in a corporate setting, handling documents, and talking to colleagues and clients in a professional way.

Main duties you’ll carry out

  • Attend the structured training sessions that Eskom runs for its graduate programme.
  • Work on real legal cases and projects inside the Legal Department.
  • Use what you learned at university to solve everyday legal problems.
  • Help the team with research, drafting letters, and preparing reports.
  • Join group meetings, share ideas, and support teammates when needed.
  • Take part in coaching, mentoring and skill‑building workshops.
  • Keep a strong focus on service – treat every request from coworkers or external partners with care.
  • Follow Eskom’s rules and procedures at all times.
  • Keep records accurate, double‑check numbers and details, and store information safely.
  • Use computers and legal software confidently to get work done.
  • Work on some tasks alone, showing you can be trusted with limited supervision.
  • Take charge of your own learning – ask questions, look for feedback, and set personal goals.

What you need to bring

  • A completed LLB, B Proc, B Com or B Admin degree (NQF Level 7) with at least 360 credits.
  • South African citizenship.
  • No previous work experience is required – this is meant for fresh grads.
  • A genuine interest in law and how large companies run their legal affairs.
  • Good speaking and writing skills – you must be able to explain things clearly.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, email, and any legal research tools).
  • A careful eye for detail and an ability to keep information accurate.
  • Ability to work on your own and decide what to do next without constant direction.
  • Personal traits such as honesty, integrity, and reliability.
  • Professional behaviour when dealing with colleagues, managers, and external parties.
  • A customer‑oriented mindset – think about how your work helps others.
  • Team spirit – enjoy collaborating and contributing to group success.
  • Leadership potential (coaching, motivating, or mentoring others) is a plus.
  • Willingness to learn from both formal training sessions and everyday tasks.

Why this internship could be a great start for you

  • Real work experience – You will see how legal advice is given in a big utility, not just in a classroom.
  • Paid position – The role comes with a salary that matches market rates for grade L7.
  • Career pathways – Successful interns often get a chance to apply for permanent roles within Eskom.
  • Skill building – You’ll improve communication, research, document management, and teamwork.
  • Diverse workplace – Eskom’s employment‑equity focus means you’ll work with people from many backgrounds.
  • Location – Megawatt Park is in Sunninghill, a well‑connected suburb of Johannesburg, with good public transport links.
