For the PICC Track

You need a National Diploma, Degree or Honours in one of these fields:

  • Built Environment – Architecture, Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geomatics, Land Surveying, Urban & Regional Planning, Quantity Surveying.
  • Infrastructure Economics, Finance & Development – Development Finance, Finance, Accountancy, Economics, Investment Management.
  • Project & Programme Management – Project Management.
  • Environmental & Sustainability Studies – Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Conservation, Geography, Environmental Geology.

For the IZP Track

You need a National Diploma, Degree or Honours in:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Quantity Surveying
  • Electrical Engineering

What You’ll Do Every Day

  • Learn on the job – Follow a structured plan that mixes training, hands‑on tasks, and regular check‑ins with a mentor.
  • Join project teams – Help plan, design, or evaluate work that supports South Africa’s infrastructure goals.

Skills and Tools the Internship Requires

  • Professional registration – Being a candidate Quantity Surveyor (QS) with the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP) is a plus.
  • Legal knowledge – Understanding of POPI Act, BCEA, and EE Act.
  • Company knowledge – Basic awareness of IDC, PICC, IZP and their core missions.
  • Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.
  • Design software – AutoCAD for electrical drawings, Civil 3D, Civil Designer, or similar.
  • Cost‑estimation tools – WinQS, QSPlus, CostX, Candy (CCS), or Bluebeam Revu.
  • Project scheduling – MS Project or comparable software.
  • Contract standards – Familiarity with JBCC, GCC, NEC 3/4, and FIDIC contracts.
  • Engineering standards – SANS, Red Book, and other local norms.
