Shoprite Group invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for its Supply Chain Graduate Programme vacancies. The closing date for applications is 15 October 2024.
What the programme is about
Shoprite’s Supply Chain Graduate Programme is a fast‑track entry route for fresh graduates who want to work in logistics and supply chain management. The scheme runs in four South African cities – Cape Town, Durban, Centurion and Gqeberha – and lets you move through different parts of a large retail distribution network. Over the course of the programme you will see how goods travel from the warehouse to the store, learn to plan deliveries, and discover ways to make the whole system smoother and cheaper.
What you will be doing
- Rotate through several supply‑chain areas such as receiving, storage, order picking and shipping.
- Watch real‑time operations in a busy distribution centre and help keep the flow moving.
- Spot inefficiencies and suggest small changes that can save time or money.
- Work with data – pull reports, read charts and use numbers to explain what’s working and what isn’t.
- Join projects that redesign processes, improve safety or boost productivity.
- Attend training sessions, workshops and mentorship meetings to build leadership skills.
- Team up with experienced managers, learn the day‑to‑day challenges, and share your own ideas.
What you need to bring
- A bachelor’s degree in a supply‑chain related field (for example BCom Supply Chain Management, BSc Quantitative Management, BCom International Trade, BCom Operations Research, or a similar qualification).
- A post‑graduate diploma in Transport Economics is a plus but not mandatory.
- No prior work experience is required – we are looking for fresh talent.
- Good people skills: you should be able to communicate clearly and work well with others.
- Basic computer knowledge – you’ll be using Excel, PowerPoint and supply‑chain software.
- Strong planning and organisational ability; you like to keep things tidy and on schedule.
- A knack for solving puzzles – analysing data, spotting patterns and recommending improvements.
- Confidence to present ideas in front of a group.
- Creativity, adaptability and a willingness to learn in a fast‑moving environment.
- A positive attitude and a genuine interest in how goods get from factories to shop shelves.
Where you can be placed
- Cape Town – a coastal hub with a busy port and major distribution centre.
- Durban – home to one of Africa’s largest container terminals.
- Centurion – a key logistics node serving the Gauteng region.
- Gqeberha – an emerging market with expanding retail demand.
Why this is a great stepping stone
- Real‑world experience – you’ll work side‑by‑side with seasoned supply‑chain professionals in a leading African retailer.
- Broad exposure – rotating through multiple departments helps you understand the whole supply chain, not just one slice of it.
- Skill development – you’ll pick up practical logistics, data‑analysis and leadership abilities that employers across the globe value.
- Career growth – many graduates are offered permanent roles after the programme, giving you a long‑term path in supply‑chain management.
- Inclusive culture – Shoprite promotes diversity, offers continuous learning and supports personal development.
