What the internship is about

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team keeps services like Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive and Azure running smoothly. As a Data Center Technician (DCT) intern you will help take care of the hardware that powers those services. The role is designed to teach you the basics of a real‑world data centre while you work alongside experienced technicians.

Working in CO+I also means you’ll get training, mentorship and chances to earn certifications. The program focuses on personal growth, teamwork and inclusion, so you’ll be part of a supportive environment from day one.

What you will do every day

  • Follow the data‑centre rules and work side‑by‑side with senior technicians.
  • Read simple change notices (PCNs) and see how they affect daily tasks.
  • Help set up, test, fix, replace or retire servers, storage units and network gear while keeping downtime low.
  • Finish support tickets quickly and learn the tools used to track them.

How success is measured

  • Join the daily safety talks and always wear required protective gear.
  • Share information with teammates, help on shift handovers and keep a friendly work vibe.
  • Learn different data‑centre processes so you can support many internal groups.
  • Report any safety, security or technical problems right away.
  • Complete all mandatory training – from security basics to environmental health and safety – on time.
