What the job is all about
The Administrator’s main job is to keep the money side of merSETA running smoothly. This means tracking grant money that must be paid, checking that all the numbers match, and helping the team finish monthly reports on time. You will also work with other people inside and outside the organization to make sure everything follows merSETA’s rules and audit requirements.
Main duties you will do
- Keep the levy‑income list up‑to‑date and match it with the receipts that come from the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).
- Help process payments for mandatory grants.
- Keep a clear record of all project and discretionary grant commitments.
- Find and recover any over‑payments that were made on either mandatory or discretionary grants.
- Follow up on the SETA debt‑recovery steps, talking with stakeholders and debt‑collection agencies when needed.
- Put together monthly reports and schedules that feed into the final monthly management pack.
- Carry out general‑ledger reconciliations so the books are always balanced.
- Keep all records organized, easy to find, and accurate.
- Answer any questions from internal or external auditors and provide the right documents quickly.
- Process transactions that involve more than one SETA and coordinate with the other SETA offices when required.
What you need to have
Education
- A three‑year Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Accounting, Financial Management, Cost & Management Accounting, or Bookkeeping – or any other qualification that is considered equal.
Work experience
- At least three years of hands‑on experience in finance, accounting, or bookkeeping, preferably within a grants or levies setting.
Extras that will help you stand out
- A three‑year Bachelor of Commerce (NQF Level 7) in Accounting, Financial Management, Management Accounting, Cost & Management Accounting, or Bookkeeping – or an equivalent qualification.
- More than three years of experience handling finance for grants or levies.
- Good understanding of how SETA finances work, especially grant payments.
