Your Role as a First Officer

As a First Officer at FlySafair, you will play a vital role in the smooth and safe operation of flights. Your main job is to assist the Captain, follow flight procedures, and make sure every flight is safe and on schedule. Here’s a closer look at your responsibilities:

Daily Duties

• Pre-Flight Tasks:
  • Check the flight plan, weather conditions, and runway details for the route.
  • Perform pre-flight checks as required by the Operations Manual.
  • Work with the Captain to review and approve key flight details like fuel needs and alternates.
• In-Flight Tasks:
  • Follow normal, abnormal, and emergency procedures during flights.
  • Keep track of the flight’s progress, monitor systems, and ensure everything runs smoothly.
  • Communicate with air traffic control and other essential departments as needed.
  • Keep a watchful eye on altitude, speed, and navigation, informing the Captain of any changes.
• Post-Flight Tasks:
  • Complete post-flight procedures as outlined in the Operations Manual.
  • File all necessary flight reports and documents.

Safety and Compliance

• Ensure compliance with aviation regulations, SACAA rules, and company policies.
• Stay up-to-date with changes in aviation laws and operational procedures.
• Be ready to take over if the Captain is unable to perform their duties.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
• SACAA Commercial License (Essential).
• SACAA ATPL License (Preferred).
• Class 1 SACAA Medical Certificate (Essential).
• Boeing Type Rating (Advantageous).
• At least 1500 flight hours, including 500 hours of multi-turbine time.
• Multi-crew experience.
• No criminal record and the ability to pass a drug and alcohol test.
• Valid RSA Passport and RSA Driver’s License.
• Own transport.
• Willing to work irregular hours as part of a roster system.
• South African citizenship with proof of identity.
