About the Internship

Discovery Life is looking for a young person who has finished an N6 Finance course at a TVET college. The position is based at Discovery Place in Sandton, Gauteng. This is a Work‑Integrated Learning (WIL) internship, which means you will work inside a real finance department while you keep learning. You will see how a big financial‑services company handles cash, billing, collections, and bank reconciliations every day.

The company’s mission is to help people stay healthy and protect their lives with smart financial and insurance products. As an intern you will be part of the Cash Control Team that supports Individual Life, Invest, Group Risk and Umbrella Fund customers.

What You Will Do

  • Follow the rules. You will learn the standard procedures of the Life Cash Control department and use the training guides that are given to you.
  • Help with cash control. You will assist the team in handling cash‑related tasks for different insurance and investment products.
  • Stick to the schedule. Each day you will check a task list and make sure all cash‑control duties are finished on time.
  • Check billing and collections. You will match daily billing records with what has been collected, spot any mismatches, and investigate why they happened.
  • Review bank statements. Every day you will compare the bank’s records with the company’s system to make sure everything adds up.
  • Fix imbalances. When the bank statement and the system do not match, you will help find the cause and correct it.
  • Match payment files. You will verify that debit‑order and payment files line up with the corporate database before sending them to the bank.
  • Handle bank responses. If the bank flags any problems, you will work with them to sort the issue out.
  • Allocate premiums. Premiums that appear on bank statements will be posted to the correct customer accounts.
  • Investigate unknown deposits. Any money that cannot be identified will be reported to the right team members.
  • Answer financial questions. You will work with internal colleagues to solve finance‑related queries.
  • Report issues. Any processing failures or errors you notice will be logged and sent to management for follow‑up.
  • Prepare reports. You will help create daily and monthly financial reports that are used by business leaders.
  • Store documents safely. All reports and supporting paperwork will be saved in the correct place for audits and reviews.
  • Attend team meetings. Weekly meetings will give you a chance to discuss progress, challenges and ideas for improvement.
  • Take part in one‑on‑one sessions. Monthly personal check‑ins will help you track your learning and get feedback.
  • Keep information private. You must handle all financial data with confidentiality and follow company policies.
