Transnet is looking for students and fresh graduates who want to learn on the job. The Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Non‑Technical Learner Programme lasts 18 months and runs in the Eastern Cape, Durban and the Western Cape.

During this time you will:

  • Put the theory you learned at a TVET college into real‑world practice.
  • Get daily help from experienced staff who will mentor you.
  • Work on real projects in areas such as administration, research, reporting and communication.
  • Build confidence and learn how a professional transport and logistics company works.

If you have finished the required subjects at a TVET college and want to boost your chances of getting a job, this programme can be a great stepping‑stone.

  • Help with specific tasks in the department you’re placed in.
  • Carry out routine operations while being guided by a supervisor.
  • Keep paperwork tidy, file documents and help prepare reports.
  • Join training workshops, webinars and mentorship sessions.
  • Follow senior staff around to see how they solve everyday problems.

  • Talk with customers, suppliers and teammates to learn what the business needs.
  • Update your manager regularly on the progress of your work.
  • Answer basic queries from colleagues and act as a point of contact when needed.
  • Collect data for market research and help analyse it.
  • Use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to create reports and presentations.
  • Suggest small improvements to how tasks are done.
  • Stick to Transnet’s safety rules, policies and ethical standards.
  • Keep confidential information private and act with integrity.
  • Work together with others to reach the team’s goals.

By the end of the 18 months you should feel confident handling administrative work, communicating with stakeholders, doing basic research and supporting business decisions.

Because Transnet follows an Employment Equity Plan, extra points are given to applicants from designated groups. Make sure all your supporting documents are up‑to‑date before you hit the submit button.
