The successful candidate will report to the Duty Manager.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants should have:

• Grade 12, Matric, NCV Level 4 certificate or an equivalent qualification.
• Between one and two years of practical experience in a general worker, tourism or hospitality environment.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Good interpersonal and customer-service skills.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good time-management and organisational skills.
• Basic knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety procedures.
• The ability to follow instructions, policies and workplace health and safety requirements.
• Willingness to work weekends, public holidays and different shifts when required.

A driver’s licence will be desirable.

Experience using a chainsaw or brush cutter will also be advantageous.

Knowledge of First Aid and a short course in landscaping will be added advantages.

Duties and Responsibilities

The SANParks General Worker will perform a wide range of duties aimed at keeping tourism facilities clean, safe and ready for visitors.

Key responsibilities include:

• Cleaning and maintaining public tourism areas.
• Cleaning ablution facilities, offices, campsites and accommodation areas.
• Assisting with the cleaning and maintenance of chalets, huts and kitchens.
• Collecting and disposing of refuse.
• Keeping waste disposal areas clean.
• Sweeping and maintaining pathways.
• Clearing vegetation and removing litter.
• Assisting with basic grounds maintenance.
• Helping with painting and minor maintenance work.
• Reporting damaged infrastructure and maintenance problems.
• Loading and unloading equipment, supplies and linen.
• Moving operational materials when required.
• Helping prepare tourism facilities before guest arrivals.
• Assisting with cleaning and preparation after guests depart.

Salary and Benefits

SANParks states that the remuneration package includes a basic salary aligned with Paterson Grade A3.
