About the Job
Weylandts needs a Foam Upper to join the team that builds furniture in Cape Town, Western Cape. This is a permanent role for anyone who has worked with upholstery or makes furniture and likes to work carefully and precisely. The main task is to put foam, padding and other soft materials on furniture frames so every piece feels comfortable and looks perfect. If you enjoy making things by hand and can keep up in a busy workshop, this job could be a great step forward in your career.
What You’ll Do Every Day
- Add foam, batting and padding to each furniture frame exactly the way the specs say.
- Cut and shape foam so it fits the different parts of a sofa, chair or bed.
- Use the right glue and tools to hold the foam in place without mess.
- Build up layers of foam until the seat or back has the right feel, shape and finish.
- Check frames before you start foaming to make sure they are clean and ready.
- Work side‑by‑side with upholsterers so the whole production line runs smoothly.
- Keep quality steady so every item that leaves the workshop meets Weylandts standards.
- Cut down waste by measuring and cutting carefully.
- Report any broken material or oddities you notice during work.
- Leave the work area tidy, organized and safe at the end of each shift.
- Follow company rules for quality and safety at all times.
- Help hit daily production targets by staying focused and efficient.
What You Need to Have
- Experience in upholstery or foam‑up work is a big plus (even a short stint counts).
- Basic know‑how of tools, glues and foam materials used in furniture making.
- Ability to read simple drawings or written instructions that show where foam goes.
- A keen eye for detail – you must want every piece to look and feel just right.
- Good hand‑eye coordination for cutting and shaping foam cleanly.
- Ability to move quickly in a fast‑paced workshop while keeping quality high.
- Strong teamwork skills – you’ll be talking and cooperating with upholsters and other staff.
- Dependability in meeting deadlines and sticking to quality rules.
- Good organizational habits and a focus on safety at all times.
