The South African Reserve Bank invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for its External Bursary Scheme 2027 vacancies.
The closing date for applications is Wednesday, 30 September 2026. Late submissions will not be accepted.
Why the Bursary Exists
South Africa faces a big shortage of skilled workers. To help fix this, the Reserve Bank offers scholarships and bursaries to students who come from disadvantaged backgrounds and want to study subjects that match the Bank’s work.
Each year the Bank’s corporate‑social‑responsibility programme funds a number of external bursaries for eligible future undergraduates.
Who Can Apply
To be considered for the 2027 bursary, you must meet all of the following conditions:
- University enrolment – You must have a provisional place in an undergraduate program at a recognised South African university.
- Grades – You need at least a 70 % average in your June 12/Matric exams. Final acceptance of the bursary will wait until the official results are released.
- Age – You must be under 30 years old when you apply.
- Financial need – You must be unable to afford university fees without assistance.

If you are chosen, you will need to sign a Bursary Agreement with the South African Reserve Bank. The agreement outlines:
- The amount of money you will receive each year.
- The duration of the bursary (usually the length of your degree).
- Any work‑placement or service obligations after graduation.
