What the Job Is About
As a Production Assistant, you will work in the store’s food‑production area. Your daily tasks include cutting, grinding, shaping and packaging meat items such as sausages and minced meat. You will follow strict rules for portion sizes, labeling and pricing, and you will make sure every product looks and tastes the same every day. When the shop floor needs an extra hand, you will also help customers with product questions and support sales.
Main Duties
Food Production & Packing
- Prepare meat products (sausage, mince, etc.) according to the company’s recipe sheet.
- Pack items to meet the daily and weekly production targets.
- Follow exact product specifications and keep the quality consistent.
Quality Checks & Stock Management
- Carry out regular quality inspections on all items.
- Verify that prices and labels are correct.
- Rotate stock to keep items fresh and throw away any damaged or expired goods.
Cleanliness, Safety & Rules
- Keep workstations spotless and follow strict hygiene guidelines.
- Make sure cold‑storage temperatures are maintained at all times.
- Clean and maintain production equipment after each use.
- Follow all health, safety and security procedures.
Customer Service & Sales Support
- Answer shoppers’ questions about products and give helpful advice.
- Promote the range of fresh items while on the shop floor.
- Process customer requests quickly and accurately.
General Store Help
- Pitch in with other production or floor duties as required.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors and teammates.
- Be ready to work at other Pick n Pay locations if asked.
What You Need to Bring
- Education: Minimum Grade 12 (Matric) is required.
- Experience: Prior work in food production or meat processing is a plus, but not mandatory.
- Location: Must live close to the Durban North store.
- Language: Ability to speak and understand English.
- Physical Ability: Willingness to stand, lift and move items repeatedly throughout the shift.
