Joburg City Theatres Invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for their Youth Development Internship Vacancies. The closing date for applications is 21 May 2026.

What the Internship Is About

Joburg City Theatres is running a Youth Development Internship Programme. This is a chance for students or fresh graduates to work inside a real theatre setting, learn on the job, and add practical experience to their résumé. The internship helps meet the growing need for hands‑on training that many colleges and universities require before, or after, a diploma is awarded.

Who Can Apply

  • Education – You must have finished Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or hold a Diploma in Performing Arts, Drama, or a similar field.
  • Computer Skills – You should be comfortable using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and sending/receiving email.
  • Age & Availability – The role is aimed at young people who can commit to the programme dates announced by the theatre.

What You Will Do

Below is a snapshot of the everyday tasks and learning areas you’ll be involved in:

  • Plan & Support Youth Programs – Help organise workshops, training sessions, and community events that teach young people new skills.
  • Assist in Arts Projects – Work behind the scenes on theatre productions, creative workshops, and other arts‑education activities.
  • Community Outreach – Connect with schools, youth groups, and local organisations to promote the theatre’s programmes.
  • Communications – Draft simple emails, update contact lists, and keep records of who attends each event.
  • Logistics – Book rehearsal rooms, arrange equipment, and make sure everything runs smoothly on the day of a performance or workshop.
  • Data & Reporting – Collect attendance numbers, feedback, and basic statistics; then help turn that information into short reports.
  • Social Media – Design easy‑to‑read posts for the theatre’s Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter pages to showcase youth activities.

By the end of the internship you will have a clear picture of how a public arts organisation plans, runs, and evaluates programmes that empower young people.

Why This Internship Matters

  • Real‑World Experience – You’ll see how theory learned in class applies to everyday work in a busy cultural venue.
  • Skill Development – Gain confidence in teamwork, communication, and project management.
  • Network Building – Meet professionals from the arts, education, and community sectors who can guide your future career.
  • Community Impact – Your work will help give young South Africans access to arts‑based learning, which builds confidence and opens doors to jobs.
