Joburg City Theatres invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for its Marketing Internship Vacancies. The closing date for applications is Tuesday 12 May 2026.

Joburg City Theatres wants to help fresh graduates learn the ropes of theatre marketing. If you have finished a course in digital marketing, communications or social media and you’re looking for real‑world experience, this 12‑month internship could be your next step. The programme is open to South African citizens aged 18‑35 who are ready to work, learn and create.


What you need to qualify

  • A diploma or degree in Digital Marketing, Communications or Social Media Marketing from a recognised South African university or college.
  • South African citizenship.
  • Age between 18 and 35.
  • A genuine desire to gain hands‑on training in a creative environment.

What you will do every day

  • Dream up new ideas for stage shows and help turn those ideas into reality.
  • Join creative meetings, take part in brainstorming sessions and see how concepts become productions.
  • Attend rehearsals and team briefings to understand how creative choices are made.
  • Make sure the final output looks fresh, exciting and connects with the audience.
  • Plan and create social‑media content – write posts, design graphics, record short videos and schedule them for release.
  • Keep an eye on the latest trends, audience tastes and new creative techniques to keep the theatre’s online presence current.
  • Capture behind‑the‑scenes moments, rehearsals and live performances with a camera or phone.
  • Suggest fresh ways to promote shows and engage fans online.
  • Reply to comments, messages and mentions in a friendly, professional tone, building a sense of community around each production.
  • Use simple design tools (Canva, Adobe Express) to make eye‑catching posts.
  • Apply basic photography and videography skills to showcase the magic of theatre.
  • Tell short, compelling stories about the cast, crew and the shows themselves.

What the internship includes

  • A 12‑month contract with a monthly stipend of R 6 094.25 – all taxes covered.
  • Real‑world exposure to a bustling theatre environment, working side‑by‑side with experienced marketers, designers and producers.
