Indigo Brands, a part of AVI Limited, is looking for a bright and eager Formulation Intern to join its R&D team at the Epping site in Cape Town. The company makes well‑known personal‑care and beauty products such as Yardley, Lenthéric, Exclamation, English Blazer and Gorgeous. This is a permanent role that gives you real‑world experience in research, product creation, testing, and quality checks in a fast‑moving, innovative setting.
What You Will Do

Keep the Lab Running Smoothly
- Clean, set up and calibrate lab equipment.
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Record details of raw materials and keep track of stock.

Help Build New Products
- Mix small batches of formulas as directed by the R&D team.
- Prepare samples for testing inside the company and for external labs.
- Look for new raw materials that could improve products.
- Support the paperwork needed for regulations and compliance.

Test Stability and Quality
- Carry out stability and safety studies on the mixes you create.
- Check how the product performs and note any odd results.
- Assist the Quality Control (QC) team with tests and keep accurate records.

Manage Data and Report Findings
- Gather test results and keep them organized.
- Create and update specifications for mass, bulk and base ingredients.
- Write or revise manufacturing instructions and safety sheets.
- Represent the formulation lab in meetings and special projects.
What You Need
- Finished Grade 12 / Matric.
- A Diploma or Degree in Chemistry, or a similar qualification.
- A COSCHEM Diploma or an equivalent certificate.
- Experience with GMP and GLP is a plus.
- Some exposure to fast‑moving consumer goods (FMCG) and the cosmetics sector helps.
- Good knowledge of lab testing methods and how to manage data.
- Familiarity with ISO standards such as 9001, 22716 and 1841.
- Strong communication, organization and analytical skills.
