Role Description / Working Relationships
The Grade 8 -10 Mathematics and Sciences Specialist will be supporting students’ learning journey. This is a very individual and unique approach to teaching and learning and will require a person who enjoys the idea of re-inventing teaching and learning as we know it.

The successful applicant is expected to have the following skills, abilities, knowledge and experience:

- Ability to communicate both orally and in written form with students and parents
- Skills in working with a range of students of different abilities and backgrounds.
- Ability to integrate technology across the curriculum
- Knowledge
- A strong knowledge Mathematics and Science curricula
- A sound understanding of collaborative planning
- A strong knowledge of differentiation
- An understanding of how student’s learn through guided and individualised inquiry
- Experience
- At least five years working experience as a teacher
- Successful recent experience as a mathematics and science teacher
- Experience working with various curricula
- Experienced in flexible teaching programmes, including development of skills and in working in teams to plan cross curricular activities
- Qualifications
- Qualification in Senior/FET phase education and SACE Registered
- Commitment to undertake additional training as required

- Keeps abreast of recent research, methodology and issues in differentiated education
- Extensive knowledge of diagnostic assessment strategies to analyse and identify learning needs
- Skilled at the development of individualised learning programmes
- Understands and is comfortable to add to the design of the school’s curriculum frameworks and associated subject area documents
Teaching Strategies and Techniques
- Applies a range of diagnostic assessment strategies to identify learning needs
- Plans programmes that support the acquisition and improvement of identified learning skills
- Implements support programmes targeted at individual student’s needs
- Records targeted support and communicates this to the community
- Keeps accurate records of student progress and achievement
Motivation of Students
- Sets expectations which support learning
- Encourages positive engagement in learning
- Provides a positive learning environment which rewards student achievement
Communication and Relationships
- Establishes caring and supportive relationships with students
- Communicates regularly with parents and families to keep them informed of student progress, overall achievement and learning support strategies

- Manages student’s behaviour
- Develops a safe physical and emotional environment
- Creates an environment which encourages respect, understanding and tolerance of a range of learning needs
