Faircape’s InPower division, located in the Southern Suburbs of the Western Cape, is looking for a reliable person to join the team as a Technical Assistant. This is a full‑time, permanent role that helps keep energy systems running, moves equipment around, and supports the workshop. What the job is all about
The main goal of the Technical Assistant is to back up the InPower technical crew every day. You will help with refuelling generators, moving tools and parts, doing simple maintenance checks, and writing short reports about what you did. The work is physical, so you’ll be on your feet a lot, and you’ll need to follow instructions carefully. Keeping tools, vehicles and the workshop tidy is also part of the day‑to‑day duties.
Main duties
- Generator fuel management – plan refuelling, keep an eye on diesel stocks, and fill generators when needed, even after normal working hours.
- Fuel tracking – note meter readings, report fuel usage and alert the team if anything looks off.
- Equipment transport – move tools, parts and larger items between sites; help load, secure and unload trucks or trailers.
- Delivery support – assist with picking up or dropping off items at the various operational locations.
- Workshop upkeep – keep the workshop clean, organized and safe for everyone.
- Vehicle care – make sure company vehicles are clean and in good condition; report any problems right away.
- Record keeping – log daily mileage, travel routes and the tasks you complete.
- Team assistance – pitch in with the technical crew on simple jobs and be ready to help during emergencies or power outages.
How you’ll help the energy operation
When the power grid is under stress, the generators that keep homes and businesses lit are vital. Your job is to make sure those generators have the right amount of fuel and are ready to run at a moment’s notice. You’ll also help move the right equipment to the right place on time, which keeps the whole operation smooth and safe. Following safety rules when handling fuel, tools and heavy gear is a must.
Skills you should have
- Basic computer knowledge for filling out short reports.
- Hands‑on ability with tools and simple mechanical tasks.
- Comfort working outdoors and in a workshop environment.
- Experience reversing vehicles with trailers or fuel bowsers.
- Good time‑management – knowing how to finish tasks on schedule.
- Ability to listen to directions and follow them exactly.
- Strong eye for detail – spotting small problems before they grow.
- Team player who can also work alone when needed.
- A safety‑first mindset for every job you do.
- Dependable and hardworking attitude.
You must also be willing to be on standby for urgent calls, including evenings or weekends.
Minimum qualifications
- Matric (Grade 12) certificate.
- Valid Code 08 driver’s licence.
- A PDP D licence is a big plus; a Code 10 licence is also helpful.
- Basic understanding of mechanical or technical work.
- Ability to lift, carry and perform physical tasks.
Extra requirements
- Your own reliable transport to get to and from work sites.
- Clean criminal, credit and medical records.
- Two written references from recent employers.
Where you’ll work
The role is split between the Faircape workshop and various field sites. You’ll travel between locations as the operation needs, sometimes on short notice. The work can be physically demanding, so staying focused, disciplined and alert to safety is essential. Expect occasional after‑hours calls if a generator or piece of equipment needs urgent attention.
