The Eastern Cape Parks & Tourism Agency (ECPTA) is looking for fresh talent to join its six‑month Graduate Internship Programme in Nature Conservation. This paid internship is funded by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) and gives recent diploma holders a real‑world chance to turn classroom knowledge into hands‑on experience.

Who can apply?

  • You must have finished a three‑year Nature Conservation diploma at an accredited South African college or university.
  • You need a clear, certified copy of your ID (issued within the last six months).
  • Provide a certified proof of your qualification – a letter on official letterhead confirming you have completed the course.
  • A detailed CV that highlights your studies, projects and any volunteer work.
  • Proof of where you live (a recent utility bill, lease agreement, or similar document).

Why this internship matters

  • Real work experience – Work side‑by‑side with seasoned conservation professionals on projects that protect wildlife and natural habitats in the Eastern Cape.
  • Skill development – Learn how to use field equipment, conduct surveys, write reports and support community‑based tourism initiatives.
  • Career boost – Add a reputable six‑month internship to your résumé, making you more attractive to future employers in conservation, tourism, and government.
  • Networking – Meet experts from ECPTA, DFFE and partner NGOs, opening doors to future job opportunities.

What you will do

During the six‑month placement you may be involved in:

  • Conducting biodiversity assessments and wildlife monitoring.
  • Assisting with the management of protected areas and park facilities.
  • Supporting environmental education programmes for local schools and visitors.
  • Helping to compile data for reports that guide policy and funding decisions.
  • Participating in community outreach to promote sustainable tourism practices.

How to apply

  1. Prepare your documents – Gather the ID copy, qualification proof, CV and residence proof.
  2. Write a short cover letter – Explain why you are interested in nature conservation and what you hope to learn from the internship.
  3. Send everything by email to the Human Capital Development team at faith.duze@ecpta.co.za.
  4. Check the deadline – All applications must be received by 16:30 on 22 October 2026. Late submissions or emails sent to a different address will not be considered.
