What you will do every day
- Put new stock on the shelves so customers can find what they need.
- Unpack deliveries, store items the right way and make sure everything is packed safely.

- Follow the “first‑in‑first‑out” (FIFO) rule so older items sell before newer ones.
- Tell the manager when something is missing, broken or expired.
- Help count stock during inventory checks.
- Build and keep displays looking neat, tidy and exactly how Dis‑Chem wants them.
- Keep prices correct and report any mistakes straight away.
- Stay up‑to‑date with the latest products and promotions so you can answer customers’ questions.
- Clean the shop floor, shelves and storage areas regularly.
- Load and unload deliveries, making sure every box is in the right place.
- Tag items that don’t have bar‑codes so they can be sold.
- Restock shelves from the back‑room, keeping the store full all the time.
- Show new teammates how things work when they join.
- Give friendly, helpful service to every customer who walks in.
- Follow up on “out‑of‑stock” requests and let shoppers know when items arrive.
- Wear the approved uniform and badge while on duty.
- Handle merchandise carefully to avoid loss or damage.
- Stick to Dis‑Chem’s policies, safety rules and standard operating procedures.
Minimum requirements
- Completed Grade 12 / Matric.
- Up to six months of retail experience (any shop will do).
- Basic computer skills – you should know how to use Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Able and willing to work retail hours, including evenings and weekends.
Helpful extra skills
- One year or more of retail work, especially in a pharmacy or fast‑moving consumer goods (FMCG) environment.
- Familiarity with merchandising standards and the way FMCG companies arrange products.
- Good knowledge of product categories – you’ll spot the difference between a pain reliever and a vitamin supplement.
- Ability to read ZMORE reports (stock ordering sheets) and use the information for ordering and counting stock.
- Ability to speak more than one language (e.g., English and another South African language).
