What the job is about

A Casual Merchandiser helps keep the shop tidy, stocked and easy for shoppers to use. You will move products around, check dates, help customers, and make sure the store looks its best. • Put new products on the shelves when they arrive.
  • Move items from the back room to the shop floor on time.
  • Check that nothing on the shelves is past its sell‑by date.
  • Keep the full range of products visible wherever possible.
  • Rotate stock using the “first‑in‑first‑out” (FIFO) method.
  • Tell the manager when stock is low, damaged, missing or expired.
  • Help count stock during regular inventory checks.
  • Follow Dis‑Chem’s store layout plans and display guidelines.
  • Flatten boxes after unpacking and store them in the right spot.
  • Make sure shelves look neat, products are easy to see, and labels are correct.
  • Report any price mistakes immediately.
  • Stay up‑to‑date with new and existing products.
  • Build, tidy and restock merchandising displays.
  • Keep the shop floor and back‑room clean and organized.
  • Take charge of specific stock areas on the floor and in the storeroom.
  • Help load and unload deliveries when needed.
  • Mark items without barcodes clearly.
  • Assist with “back‑shopping” tasks (collecting items from the back room for customers).
  • Train new team members on how things are done.
  • Greet customers, answer questions and offer help in a friendly way.
  • Follow up on out‑of‑stock requests using the proper list.
  • Resolve stock questions or pass them to the manager if needed.
  • Wear the correct uniform and name badge during every shift.
  • Handle merchandise gently to avoid loss.
  • Follow all Dis‑Chem policies, procedures and safety rules.

  • If you have a year or more of retail work, that will give you an edge.

The job is open to people who can work accurately in a busy store. Experience in merchandising or fast‑moving consumer goods (FMCG) helps, but fresh graduates who meet the basics are also welcome.
