What the job is about
The Pharmacist Assistant works inside a busy pharmacy that follows strict health rules. The main aim is to help the pharmacist give safe, fast and friendly service to every customer. If you have studied pharmacy and are registered with the South African Pharmacy Council, this permanent role lets you gain real‑world experience in a retail setting. You will be part of a team that makes sure medicines are handled correctly, stock is kept tidy, and shoppers leave with the right advice.
Main duties you will do
- Help with dispensing medicines – under the pharmacist’s supervision you will count, label and hand out prescriptions.
- Keep records straight – update patient files, log received stock and enter information into the computer system.
- Control the shelf stock – receive deliveries, store items properly, check expiry dates and rotate stock so nothing goes bad.
- Mix simple preparations – follow written formulas to compound creams, ointments or other pharmacy products.
- Give basic health advice – answer questions about over‑the‑counter (OTC) items like pain relievers, vitamins or first‑aid supplies, always staying within approved guidelines.
- Maintain a clean work area – sweep the dispensing counter, clean work surfaces and make sure the pharmacy looks professional.
- Follow legal rules – stick to South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) regulations and Clicks Group standard operating procedures (SOPs) at all times.
- Support sales of health‑related products – guide customers through the health aisle, suggest suitable OTC choices and help with quick‑sale items.
- Check calculations – double‑check dosages, conversions and total costs to avoid mistakes.
- Assist with general tasks – help the team with any other pharmacy duties that arise during the day.
