Job Title: Compliance Manager – Insurance West

Purpose Statement:

As a Compliance Manager in our Insurance division, you’ll be responsible for promoting and ensuring an adequate level of compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements. You’ll also lead the strategic direction and operational effectiveness of the Compliance department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote and ensure compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements
  • Develop and implement effective compliance policies and procedures
  • Provide guidance and support to employees on compliance matters
  • Conduct regular audits and reviews to ensure compliance
  • Identify and mitigate compliance risks

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law or Accounting – Financial Accounting
  • At least 5 years of experience in compliance management in the financial services industry, with exposure to insurance in at least 3 of the 5 years

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Law or Accounting – Financial Accounting
  • 7 years of experience leading compliance management in the financial services industry
  • 5 years of experience in compliance/risk management in the financial services/insurance industry
  • 5 years of experience managing a team of specialists in a similar environment
  • Proven experience in operating at a senior management level

Knowledge and Skills:

Minimum:

  • Insurance industry knowledge
  • Compliance risk management, including compliance risk identification, assessment, and monitoring
  • Process and controls development
  • Laws and regulations applicable to the insurance/financial services environment
  • Business acumen and understanding of business drivers
  • Legal/statutory interpretation

Ideal:

  • Insurance industry knowledge
  • Capitec risk management environment
  • Financial, insurance, and insurance legislation

  • Computer literacy (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook)
