As a General Assistant, you will support the truck operator in collecting and delivering products, assist in blasting preparation, and maintain a safe working environment. Key Responsibilities
Blasting Assistance: Help the Blaster prepare the blast site while following client, statutory, and BME standards.
Site Inspection: Inspect the site with the Blaster to determine target areas for blasting.
Site Preparation: Erect barricades, map holes, and ensure that all drilled holes meet prescribed parameters.
Hole Preparation: Measure hole depths, check for deviations, and report any issues to the Blaster, drill contractor, or Foreman.
Blast Setup: Collect and organize blasting accessories, including detonators and boosters, as per the blast plan.
Priming the Holes: Insert detonators into boosters and lower them into the blast holes under the Blaster’s supervision.
Risk Assessments: Conduct risk assessments and ensure safe work declarations are completed before entering the workplace.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
Education: Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics.
Driving License: Code 08 / Code B driver’s license is advantageous.
Additional Qualifications (Preferred):
- Magazine Master Ticket
- Blasting Assistant Certificate (MQA)
- Stemming Loader Certificate
Experience:
- 2+ years experience in a blasting or mining environment.
- Previous experience as a Blasting Assistant is a strong advantage.
