Absa invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for its Industrial and Organizational Psychology Internship 2027. The closing date for applications is 30 June 2027.

All over South Africa, students who are studying Industrial Psychology can join a one‑year internship that is approved by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). The program is designed to help Masters students finish the training they need to become registered Industrial Psychologists who can work on their own.

The internship covers six main areas

  • Organizational psychology – how people behave at work
  • Human‑resource psychology – hiring, training and keeping staff
  • Career guidance and employee wellness – helping people grow and stay healthy
  • Testing and assessment – using tools to measure skills and traits
  • Elective project – a special assignment you choose
  • Professional ethics – doing the right thing in the workplace

During the year you must finish 260 days of work and go through every one of these areas. You will have two supervisors: one senior Industrial Psychologist who works at Absa and another Academic Psychologist from a university that is approved by the HPCSA.

Every three months you will fill out a logbook and a short report. This helps you keep track of what you have learned and shows how you are adding value to the bank and the whole field of Industrial Psychology.

What you will get from this HPCSA‑accredited internship

  • Real‑world experience in a fast‑moving Pan‑African bank
  • Mentoring from seasoned professionals
  • Chance to work on projects that really matter
  • Credit toward the registration requirements for Industrial Psychologists
  • A head start on a career that can grow across the continent

Who we are looking for

If you want to work in a lively place where you can meet many experts who will help guide your career, this could be the right fit. You should be excited about a structured program that links you with Absa staff from many African countries, giving you skills to work confidently on your own and to understand different cultures. You will learn how to think like a designer, use new ideas, and get ready for the future of work.
