Weylandts Furniture Cape Town invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for its VM and Spatial Planner Assistant vacancies. The closing date for applications is 14 October 2026.

What the job is about

Weylandts is a well‑known furniture and home‑ware brand in South Africa. They are looking for a junior team member to help the Spatial Planner turn ideas into real‑world store layouts. The role mixes visual merchandising, space planning, product handling, and basic admin work. It is perfect for a recent graduate who loves interior design, colour, and how things look together in a shop.

Who you will work with

You will report directly to the Spatial Planner and will often be in touch with the Chief Brand Officer, the buying team, and store staff. Your main mission is to make sure the lookbooks and instructions you create are clear, accurate, and easy for stores to follow.

Main tasks you’ll do

  • Create lookbooks – gather photos, sketches, and product details to show how home‑ware should be displayed.
  • Organise assets – keep all images, layouts, and style guides in a tidy digital library.
  • Check for errors – review every lookbook for missing info, wrong prices, or inconsistent styling before sending it out.
  • Explain the plan – share the lookbooks and set‑up steps with store managers and visual teams.
  • Help with store revamps – twice a year Weylandts refreshes its stores; you’ll assist in fitting new home‑ware pieces into the existing furniture set‑ups.
  • Use Revit – draw simple floor plans, place products, and mark where items belong.
  • Track progress – update spreadsheets with product quantities, layout changes, and any issues that arise.
  • Spot problems early – if a product won’t fit or a colour clash appears, let the Spatial Planner know right away.
  • Support communication – act as a bridge between the buying department, the design team, and the stores.
  • Maintain records – keep up‑to‑date files for every project, including PDFs, CAD files, and notes.

Skills and qualifications you’ll need

Must‑have Nice‑to‑have
A diploma or degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Spatial Design, or a similar field. Work experience in retail, visual merchandising, or home‑ware (helpful but not required).
Good command of Revit – you should be able to create simple 2‑D and 3‑D plans. Familiarity with other design software such as SketchUp or AutoCAD.
Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office – especially PowerPoint, Excel, and Word. Basic Photoshop or Lightroom skills for quick image edits.
Strong eye for colour, scale, and how items look together. Passion for furniture, home‑decor trends, and the latest design styles.
Excellent organiser – you can juggle several tasks without missing a beat. Experience working on team projects in a fast‑paced environment.
Clear written and spoken English – you must be able to explain ideas simply. Ability to adapt quickly when plans change at the last minute.

Why this role is a good start for a design career

  • Real‑world experience – you will see how ideas move from a sketch on a computer to a physical display in a busy store.
  • Mentorship – the Spatial Planner will guide you, showing how senior designers think and solve problems.
  • Broad skill set – you will practice both creative design work and the administrative side of retail planning.
  • Industry exposure – you will learn about product sourcing, stock management, and how large‑scale store renovations are run.
