What the job is about
Brights Hardware’s Brackengate unit in Brackenfell, Western Cape needs two entry‑level General Assistants for its busy Drive‑Thru Yard. If you like helping people, moving stock and working in a lively shop, this permanent role could be a great start to your career.
Your main goal will be to load customers’ purchases onto their cars or trucks quickly and correctly, while keeping the yard neat and the stock safe. You’ll also support delivery drivers, move items between trucks, and make sure the work area follows the company’s safety rules.
Daily duties you’ll perform
- Load each customer’s vehicle with the exact items they bought.
- Load delivery and transfer trucks safely, following the loading plan.
- Check that the right products are taken and that nothing is lost or broken.
- Count and stack stock accurately; report any shortages immediately.
- Keep the Drive‑Thru Yard clean, tidy and organized at all times.
- Sweep the floor and tidy up according to the housekeeping checklist.
- Greet customers, answer basic product questions and offer friendly service.
- Bag stone, sand and similar bulk items when asked.
- Take part in regular stock‑takes and help with precise stock counting.
- Follow the instructions of supervisors and help out with extra tasks when needed.
- Work together with teammates to keep the yard running smoothly during rush periods.
- Help delivery and transfer drivers with loading or unloading as required.
What you need to bring
- Matric (or an equivalent qualification).
- At least one year of experience in a similar role is preferred, but strong customer‑service skills and a willingness to learn are also valuable.
- Ability to count and handle stock accurately; basic numeracy is a must.
- Good spoken English and the ability to communicate politely with customers, coworkers and drivers.
- Ability to work on your own with little supervision and to be a reliable team player.
- A disciplined, motivated attitude and the capacity to stay productive in a busy environment.
- Ability to work under pressure while keeping an eye on detail.
- Physical fitness and stamina – you’ll be on your feet most of the day and may need to lift moderate loads.
- Willingness to keep the yard safe, clean and organized at all times.
