Grindrod Road Transportation is looking for four young people to join a 12‑month internship in Durban. No prior work experience is needed – just a keen interest in the transport world and a willingness to learn on the job.
What You’ll Do Every Day
Help Plan and Carry Out Work
- Talk with suppliers and customers to keep daily plans on track.
- Update the office team and the mine about loading status.
- Spot any changes in the plan and tell the team leader right away.
Keep Records Straight
- Fill in the daily load tracker so invoicing can happen on time.
- Produce a short daily management report that shows how the day went.
Follow Safety Rules
- Work with drivers to make sure they follow all mine safety and compliance rules.
Work With People
- Keep learning and improving your own skills.
- Help solve any worker‑related issues that pop up.
- Take part in performance reviews and suggest training needs.
Routine Tasks
- Communicate clearly with contractors.
- Support transport team leaders with their daily duties.
- Keep customers happy by meeting their expectations.
- Manage any deviations from the plan quickly.
- Motivate the team and keep lines of communication open.
- Share daily performance results with management.
- Oversee contractor work to ensure it meets standards.
What You Need to Have
Education
- Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent.
- A two‑year transportation‑related qualification at NQF Level 5.
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, email).
Skills and Traits
- Ability to look at data and spot trends.
- Strong attention to detail – missing a small error can cause big problems.
- Good understanding of road traffic rules, local municipal by‑laws, and cross‑border requirements.
- Familiarity with quality and safety standards such as ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018.
- Confident, assertive, and willing to speak up when needed.
