The Bracken Garden outlet needs a Post‑Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant who is registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) and is keen to help customers get the right medicine. This is a permanent, full‑time role that mixes paperwork, teamwork and direct customer contact.
You will work under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. Your main goal is to make sure every patient leaves with the correct medication, clear instructions and friendly service.
What you will do every day
- Sell medicines that are listed as Schedule 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5.
- Prepare and re‑package non‑sterile drugs following the shop’s standard procedures.
- Help the pharmacist mix non‑sterile medicines when needed.
- Order and receive stock, keep the shelves tidy and report any shortages.
- Check prescriptions to be sure they meet SAPC legal rules.
- Enter prescription details into the pharmacy computer system and double‑check patient information.
- Label and pack medicines accurately for the pharmacist’s final sign‑off.
- Explain how to use medicines safely to patients and answer simple health questions.
- Assist with medical aid claims, correct rejected claims and process authorisations for chronic, HIV/AIDS and oncology medicines.
- Update patient records and maintain clean, up‑to‑date customer profiles.
- Take part in stock counts, cash handling and asset control.
- Give health advice that is correct and easy for customers to understand.
Who should apply
Minimum must‑haves
- Finished Grade 12 (Matric).
- A basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification.
- Current registration with the SAPC.
- Hands‑on experience with the Unisolv system.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Good maths ability and strong English skills (plus a second language).
- Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays.
Nice‑to‑have extras
- Experience in a retail or fast‑moving consumer goods (FMCG) setting.
- Ability to speak a third language.
- Familiarity with SAP or e‑scripting pharmacy systems.
- Knowledge of complementary medicines, family planning or drug information.
