Virgin Active is looking for a friendly person to run the Club‑V area at the Cascades Club‑V in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu‑Natal. The job is full‑time and permanent. Your main job will be to keep the children safe, happy and busy while their parents work out or use the gym. If you enjoy playing with kids, can organise simple games and like to keep places tidy, this role could be a great fit.
What You’ll Do Every Day
- Watch the children who come into Club‑V and make sure the space stays safe.
- Check members in and out using the electronic card system, and keep the records straight.
- Follow the rule that a child can stay for no more than two hours in a row.
- Plan fun activities such as arts and crafts, obstacle courses, music time and simple sports.
- Lead the group through each activity, showing the steps and helping kids who need extra help.
- Keep the play area clean: wipe tables, sweep floors, and make sure toys and equipment are stored correctly.
- Spot any accidents or problems right away and tell a manager immediately.
- Use the emergency plan if something serious happens, like a fire or a medical issue.
- Keep track of all toys, books, games and other supplies with a checklist so nothing gets lost.
- Make parents feel welcome by answering their questions and letting them know how the day is going.
These tasks help the club run smoothly and give families a reason to keep coming back.
What You Need to Have
- A clean criminal record – the club must be a safe place for kids.
- A current First Aid certificate (or be ready to get one quickly).
- Willingness to finish the internal Club‑V and Active Play training that Virgin Active provides.
- A genuine interest in being around children and helping them learn and play.
- Patience and the ability to stay calm, even when things get noisy or hectic.
- Good talk‑skills so you can explain games clearly and answer parents’ questions.
- Energy to keep up with a lively group of kids and to move around the play area.
- Strong time‑management – you’ll need to start activities on schedule and wrap them up on time.
- A careful approach to safety rules and cleaning standards.
- Ability to work by yourself when needed, and also as part of a team with other club staff.
- A friendly, confident, and approachable attitude that makes kids feel comfortable.
