What This Job Is About

As a Customer Service Centre Agent, you will be the front‑line helper for people who use SANRAL’s roads.
You’ll answer questions, handle mobile‑app support, give out eTags, and explain all of SANRAL’s toll products and services.

Your main goal is to make every customer feel welcome, keep service up to standard, and help the centre run smoothly.


Minimum Requirements

  • Level 5 certificate – e.g., Higher Certificate in Business Administration, Customer Service Management, Call‑Centre Management, Retail Management or Office Administration.
  • Three (3) years of customer‑facing work – this could be in a call‑centre, retail shop or another service job.
  • If you have a foreign qualification, you must show an official SAQA evaluation that confirms it matches the South African standard.

Technical Skills You Need

Skill Why It Matters
CRM and VoIP knowledge Most calls and tickets come through these systems.
Computer use You’ll type into spreadsheets, reply to emails, and manage the online portals.
Product knowledge Knowing how to register a mobile‑app account or explain dispute resolution helps keep customers happy.
Clear talking and writing You’ll explain solutions over the phone and on the chat.
Time‑management The job can get busy, so staying organised is key.
Problem‑solving Customers sometimes bring tough issues that need a quick fix.
Relationship building Good rapport keeps customers coming back without complaints.

What You Will Do Every Day

1. Treat Customers Well

  • Keep every customer’s experience positive.
  • Use a friendly tone no matter the situation.
  • Answer questions fast.
  • Help users navigate the SANRAL mobile app.
  • Support road‑users with Account‑Based Ticketing (ABT).
  • Meet the Customer Satisfaction Scorecard targets.

2. Manage Customer Accounts

  • Create new accounts and keep the information accurate.
  • Record details correctly whether they’re spoken, typed or sent in another way.
  • Keep the customer database tidy.

3. Deal with Complaints

  • Handle difficult conversations calmly.
  • Resolve issues before they become bigger problems.
  • Report risks or potential problems to your supervisor.
  • Escalate any matter that could harm SANRAL’s reputation.

4. Handle Money (if needed)

  • Follow strict cash‑handling rules.
  • Reconcile money at the end of each shift.
  • Fill out required reporting forms.
