South African National Parks (SANParks) invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for their Boma Assistant vacancies. The closing date for applications is 19 December 2025.


About the Job

SANParks is hiring three Boma Assistants for the Veterinary Wildlife Services team in Skukuza, inside the famous Kruger National Park.
You will work under the Boma Supervisor and help keep animals healthy while they wait for transfer, research, or other projects.

Location

  • Kruger National Park, Skukuza
    A huge natural reserve in South Africa where you will spend most of your workday surrounded by wildlife.

What We’re Looking For

Requirement What It Means
1–2 years of wildlife capture or holding facility experience You’ve helped care for or manage animals before.
Grade 12 certificate Finished high school or equivalent.
National Diploma in Nature Conservation, Wildlife Management or a similar field This is a plus if you have it.
Know the rules for working safely with animals You understand animal welfare and safety guidelines.
Ready to work flexible hours (weekends, evenings, and sometimes nights) The job can involve odd hours.
Basic knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act You should know how to stay safe at work.
Good physical health You can handle outdoor tasks.
Hands‑on maintenance skills (brickwork, welding, carpentry, plumbing) Helpful if you can fix or build stuff.
Experience cutting brush, using a chainsaw, or driving tractors Useful for field work.
Clear written and spoken communication You can explain your work and follow instructions well.
Driver’s licence (Code B or C1) Good to have if you will drive.

Daily Responsibilities

  • Feed and water animals in the holding area on schedule.
  • Keep the area clean: collect waste, clean cages, and remove spoiled food.
  • Watch for any signs of animal distress or problems with food supplies and report them.
  • Help move animals for sales, research, or relocation projects.
  • Load and store food delivered from inside or outside the park.
  • Aid in general boma duties, including building maintenance, fence repairs, and clearing overgrown plants.
  • Report equipment problems or safety risks to supervisors.
  • Keep a list of every animal in the facility to check on them regularly.
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures.
