Bargain Books invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for their Bookseller vacancy. The closing date for applications is 16 December 2025.
What the Job Looks Like
Working as a Bookseller at Bargain Books means you’ll spend your days inside one of South Africa’s biggest book shops. You will be part of the team that welcomes customers, keeps the aisles neat, and makes sure the shelves have the right mix of new releases and fan‑favorites. Your main job is to help shoppers find the books they need, answer their questions, and make the shopping experience enjoyable.
The role is a 195‑hour contract (about 3½ weeks). It’s based at Shop U32 in Kolonnade Shopping Centre in Montana Park, Pretoria. You’ll report straight to the Store Manager and use your computer skills to keep track of inventory and sales.
Daily Tasks
- Greet every customer with a smile.
- Keep the entrance, windows, and whole shop tidy.
- Put up the window display and shop displays, rotating them every two weeks so the shop always looks fresh.
- Check that best‑selling books are sold out, and move them to the front so shoppers can find them easily.
- Organise new stock, split it into categories, and label it correctly.
- Watch for any shop‑theft or safety risks and alert the manager if something looks wrong.
- Learn the titles, authors, and genres of the books so you can recommend good picks to anyone who asks.
- Take orders for customers who can’t find a title in the store, using the shop’s ordering system.
- Do a bit of paperwork at the end of your shift—tally cash, check card sales, fill in attendance, and send out any supplier invoices or emails.
