Dis‑Chem Pharmacies invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for their Post‑Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant vacancy at the Sunward Park store in Boksburg, Gauteng. What you will do every day
- Help sell Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines while staying within the legal limits.
- Mix, prepare and make non‑sterile medicines following the approved steps.
- Re‑package, store and move medicines and scheduled items safely.
- Order stock and keep track of inventory as directed by the pharmacist.
- Get prescriptions ready for dispensing under a pharmacist’s watchful eye.
- Enter prescription details correctly and check patient information in the dispensing system.
- Pick, pack, label and get medication ready for patients with great care.
- Explain to customers how to use their medicines the right way.
- Stay up‑to‑date with medical‑aid rules and claim procedures.
- Assist shoppers with over‑the‑counter health products and self‑medication advice.
- Process medical‑aid claims and fix any rejected prescriptions.
- Help with authorisation for chronic, HIV/AIDS and oncology medicines.
- Keep patient records accurate and update them when needed.
- Watch stock levels, report shortages and note any mismatches to the manager.
- Receive new stock and display it using the FEFO (first‑expired‑first‑out) method.
- Take part in regular stock‑takes and keep cash and assets under control.
What you need to have
- Matric (Grade 12) certificate.
- Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification.
- Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
- Experience using the Unisolv pharmacy system.
- Good computer skills, especially Microsoft Office.
- Strong number skills and the ability to calculate dosages accurately.
- Clear spoken and written English; a second language is a plus.
- Friendly attitude and good people skills for dealing with customers.
- High attention to detail and a habit of double‑checking work.
- Ability to solve problems quickly and manage time well.
- Honesty, reliability and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
- Willingness to work typical retail hours, including evenings and weekends if needed.
- Experience in retail or fast‑moving consumer goods (FMCG) is helpful.
- Knowledge of SAP, e‑Scripting, family‑planning products and complementary medicine is an advantage.
- A valid driver’s licence and clean criminal and credit records.
