What the internship is all about

The Electoral Commission (IEC) runs a 24‑month internship inside the Electoral Matters division. It is a chance to see how a Chapter 9 constitutional body keeps South Africa’s elections running smoothly. Interns get practical, on‑the‑job training in logistics, inventory, and everyday office work.


What you will be doing

Logistics & electoral operations

  • Write clear specifications for the goods and services the commission needs.
  • Talk with suppliers and service providers to get the right items on time.
  • Help manage warehouses, keep track of stock, and organise material flow.
  • Support the planning of by‑elections, corporate polls, and other voting events.
  • Assist the Party Liaison Committee and help with delimitation (redrawing voting boundaries).
  • Take part in special electoral projects and initiatives.

Office and admin duties

  • Record meeting minutes and turn them into easy‑to‑read reports.
  • Build simple PowerPoint slides for presentations.
  • Answer routine questions from staff and the public.
  • Gather, copy, and share needed documents.
  • Keep filing systems tidy, both on paper and digitally.
  • Handle incoming and outgoing mail and emails.
  • Set up meeting rooms, schedule appointments, and send reminders.

Who can apply

To be considered, you need to meet all of the basic requirements below:

  • Finished Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Hold a 3‑year Bachelor’s degree or a National Diploma in Logistics, Warehouse Management, or a related field.
  • Be able to speak and write clearly in English.
  • Know how to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Show willingness to learn new computer programmes and tools.

Extra points

  • Being under 35 years old.
  • Currently unemployed.
  • No previous work experience in the same field of study.
  • No past internship experience in logistics or related areas.
