The Department of Science, Technology and Innovation invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for their National Youth Service Graduate Programme 2026 vacancies. The closing date for applications is Saturday, 31 January 2026, at 23:59.

What is the DSTI National Youth Service Graduate Programme?

The DSTI National Youth Service (NYS) Graduate Programme helps young people who have finished university and are looking for a job. If you’re under 35 and don’t have a steady job yet, you could spend 12 months working with a partner organisation. While you’re there, you’ll get a monthly stipend that helps you pay for food, housing and other everyday expenses.

The programme is part of the government’s bigger plan to get young South Africans involved in community work, learning new skills and creating a better future for the country.

Why You Might Want to Join

  • Get real work experience: You’ll learn how to do things in a workplace that counts on your resume.
  • Build useful skills: From teamwork and time‑management to talking with people and handling computers, you’ll improve in areas that employers love.
  • Earn money while you learn: The stipend covers most of your living costs, so you don’t have to work long hours for a low pay.
  • Help your community: You’ll be part of projects that give back to neighbourhoods and schools.
  • Boost your future job chances: After the year is over, you’ll have a big win on your CV and a network of contacts that can lead to a permanent role.

Who Should Apply?

  • Graduates in any field that matters to science, technology, media, or communications.
  • People who can use a computer confidently.
  • Those who are motivated and can stay focused even when things get pressurised.
  • Someone who can explain ideas clearly and keep things organised.
  • Individuals who can write well and ideally have some media or broadcasting experience.
  • Good at listening and working with others.

What Paperwork Do You Need?

  1. Curriculum Vitae (CV) – a brief list of your education and any work you’ve done.
  2. Certified copy of your ID – proof of who you are.
  3. Motivational Letter – explain why you want to join the programme and what you hope to learn.
  4. Certified copy of your highest qualification – show you finished university, college or a relevant course.
