Work as a Debt Collector in Cape Town
Truworths is one of the biggest fashion stores in South Africa. They need a permanent Debt Collector to join their Credit Service team right here in Cape Town. This job is all about helping customers get back on track with their payments while making sure our store stays on top of its finances.
What You’ll Do
- Tell customers how much they owe – This includes past‑due amounts and any future instalments.
- Ask for immediate payment or set up a payment promise – If a customer can’t pay right away, confirm when they plan to.
- Check the next payment date – Make sure it lines up with their salary days and any $previous payments.
- Explain the impact of not paying – Work out what could happen if they stay behind, and show the advantages of paying on time.
- Negotiate the total amount owed – Sometimes you’ll arrange a payment plan that works for both sides.
- Suggest credit‑card options – Show how using a card can help with budgeting.
- Suggest debit‑order options – Explain how automatic payments can keep things simple.
- Keep customer records accurate – Update details neatly and use the correct codes in our system.
What We’re Looking For
- Basic schooling – Matric (high school) or something that’s roughly equivalent.
- Tech savvy – Comfortable with Word and Excel, and a few other tools we use in the office.
- English plus another language is a bonus, but not essential.
- Patient and curious – You’re happy to learn new tricks and stay calm when conversations get difficult.
- Focused – You can stay on task even when things get busy.
- Good at solving problems – If a customer is confused or upset, you can clear it up fast.
- Persistent and adaptable – You’re not shy about trying new ways to finish a task.
- Dependable – You’re on time, honest, and stick to your word.
- Policy‑friendly – You read and follow the company’s rules and the team’s guidelines.
