About the Job

Cape Herb & Spice is a big name in South Africa’s fast‑moving consumer goods (FMCG) market. They’re looking for a Food Technologist Graduate to join their team in Muizenberg, Western Cape. This is a part‑time role that gives fresh graduates a real taste of how food safety, quality checks, and production work in a busy factory.

What You’ll Do

  • Help keep the factory safe – you’ll learn how to put BRCGS (Food Safety Standards) systems into place and keep them updated.
  • Investigate problems – if something doesn’t follow the rules, you’ll look into it and explain what happened.
  • Run tests – you’ll check the air, surfaces, and ingredients for allergens and other safety issues.
  • Check results – compare test data with the product’s requirements and make sure everything is accurate.
  • Watch for hazards – keep track of any glass or hard‑plastic pieces that pop up and find trends.
  • Help customers – a part of the role is to reply to complaints, extend product shelf life when needed, and produce certificates that show a product meets the standards.
  • Do audits – look at the factory’s hygiene, help production teams, and do GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) checks.
  • Taste and inspect – you’ll taste new products and raw materials, and inspect shipments before they leave the factory.
  • Update procedures – improve quality processes continuously.
  • Learn from leaders – you’ll take part in training, traceability studies, mock recalls, and supplier paperwork.

Your Background

  • A degree (BTech) or advanced diploma in one of the following:
    • Food Consumer Sciences
    • Food Technology
    • Food Science
    • Biotechnology
  • 0–1 year of work in a related field is fine.
  • If you’ve already seen HACCP, BRCGS, or done internal audits, that’s a bonus.
  • Strong computer skills with Word, Excel, and Outlook.

What You Should Be Like

  • Good at writing and talking – both in English.
  • Super detail‑oriented – you’ll need to read and write clear reports.
  • Time‑smart – handle tasks efficiently and keep everything organised.
  • Independent – you can work on your own and step up when needed.
  • Curious – you like research and analyse data.
  • Positive – a can‑do attitude and a desire to grow in your career.

Why This Is Cool

The graduate program gives you real experience with food safety, quality checks, and compliance. You’ll learn from seasoned food technologists, work with high‑quality machines, and build a career that can open doors everywhere in the FMCG world.
